“Commemorating 20 Years Since September 11, 2001

“As we remember 9/11 and the sacrifices, service, and heroism that unified a world in a time of unbelievable tragedy, we stop to say thank you.

“Thank you to the brave First Responders. Thank you to the families, friends and loved ones. Thank you to those whose hearts were drawn so close to everyone who was suffering and in need. We remember you.” (lds.org)

POCATELLO IDAHO TEMPLE

Temple tours continue through October 23rd. The volunteers have been busy keeping up with the visitors anxious to see the Lord’s beautiful building.

It is amazing to learn about the planning, travels and the process it has taken to determine exactly what was needed to acquire the materials for this special edifice. “The temple is composed of material that came from all over the world, including Israel, Pakistan, Iran, Spain, Turkey, Namibia and the United States” (ISJ, Sept 17, 2021).

“… we want to make sure it (temple) feels a part of that community.

… were able to incorporate native flowers including syringa, the States flower; bitterroot, a pink flower significant to Native American tribes; and Indian paintbrush…”

Another blessing of the completion of the temple is that Ida Gigger, a ward member, was able to tour the building and meet Elder Stevenson. The Lord is truly blessing our city. We look forward to the dedication.

MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOPRIC

Come to the Temple

Tracy and I had the opportunity to be ushers in the Pocatello Temple for the YSA tours on September 10. We were scheduled to come at 3:15 for training and help until 9:00. Our training was cut short because people were showing up early for tours and we didn’t want anyone to wait. We guided hundreds of people through the temple. And they kept coming until well after 10:30. I witnessed that night that the temple is a beacon that invites all to come into its doors. And as I walked through the temple at the end of that night, weary but thankful, the Spirit whispered to my heart that Christ is the beacon in our lives and is inviting all to come unto Him.

Boyd K. Packer said, “There are many reasons one should want to come to the temple. Even its external appearance seems to hint of its deeply spiritual purposes. This is much more evident within its walls.”

We have enjoyed watching each stage of the Pocatello Temple construction from the groundbreaking to the open house. In a recent fireside, we were amazed to learn of all the work and miracles that happened to make this beautiful building a reality. We know, however, that the real work and the real miracles will start after the temple is dedicated.

David A. Bednar taught “Understandably, the announcement of each new temple is a source of great joy and a reason to give thanks to the Lord. However, our primary focus should be on the covenants and ordinances that can change our hearts and deepen our devotion to the Savior and not simply on the location or beauty of the building.”

Come to the temple. Come to the open house and observe the beauty and the Spirit within. Then share it with others. Come to the dedication on November 7. Then come to the temple often and participate in the sacred ordinances inside. If you need a temple recommend, come see the Bishop.

When we turn our focus toward the temple, we turn our focus toward the Savior.
