GIRLS CAMP

July included Camp for the Young Women. Juana Harris was camp director and from all the information and feedback did a fantastic job. Below are some comments about camp from a couple of the girls who attended:

Cosette Thomas:  Girls Camp 2021 was an adventure. The spot we found was nice and quiet, had a few cute little gazebos that we could hang out in, along with a tether ball we got to play with. Although, the spot was in straight sun we had a pavilion for shade and we ended up getting rained on a couple nights in a row making the rain even more of a welcome relief when it did happen. On the first day we got all crafty and styled our own lanterns out of jars and then used them on our planet hike on our last night there. It was really neat being able to see the planets distance from the sun and reading the neat scriptures that went along with each one. How wonderful that our Savior created the beautiful universe we live in. My favorite part of it all was when the missionaries, that were over our camp, invited us to go to put our painted hands on the wall of witnesses, saying that we stand as witnesses of God. It was such a neat experience. Girls Camp was memorable, especially being able to have it with just our ward. It was a great experience being able to go and feel the spirit and grow closer with the girls in our ward.

Naomi Young:  Girls camp this year was a blast! From hikes and crafts to skits, a devotional, and even middle-of-the-night dance parties, the young women were able to learn and grow together. The spirit was felt as testimonies were strengthened. Even something like pouring rain couldn't stop the young women. This year's girls camp was an amazing experience for all involved, can't wait for the next one!

YOUNG WOMEN PRESIDENCY REPORT

Our young women have been quite busy the last few months.  Among other things, we have participated in service activities, played games, and gone rock climbing.  We went to a fantastic youth conference where we learned a lot about the Pocatello temple and our pioneer ancestors who settled in the Salt Lake Valley.  We spent a few sweltering hot days at girls' camp with fierce thunderstorms each afternoon.  We played kickball in the sprinklers, did crafts, learned how to set up tents, ate too much, and really enjoyed each other's friendship.  We were able to attend an amazing fireside with Alex Boye and to see the movie Witnesses.  We also had a lot of fun swimming at Lava Hot Springs and playing pickleball.  We look forward to helping with the temple open house and to participating in more activities focusing on the temple.  What a neat time to live in Pocatello!

Our ward has many talented young women.  They have strong testimonies and are honestly wonderful people.  We love them are thankful for each one of them! Emoji

RELIEF SOCITY LESSONS FOR SEPTEMBER

WELCOME HOME ELDER THOMAS - AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Thank you for this opportunity! The Spirit of the Lord definitely guided me in putting this together.

I recently returned from the New Hampshire Manchester Mission, which includes parts of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, two slivers of New York state, and a sliver of Connecticut. It was the best experience of my life so far, and the best two years for my life. My mission president’s wife, Sister Beck, told me a little bit before I went home that the Lord can do more for you in two years than I can do for myself in twenty. I know that what she said is true. The Lord has changed me as I’ve strived to love Him and His children, and to bring souls to Him. I know that God, our Heavenly Father lives, that His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, stands on the right hand of His Father, and is our Mediator, our Savior, and our Redeemer. I know that the Book of Mormon is what it claims to be- Another Testament of Jesus Christ, to go right alongside the Bible. It is, as the Prophet Joseph Smith taught, “the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book” (Introduction to the Book of Mormon). I know this, the Spirit of the Lord has taught me this. Alma the Younger said to the people of Zarahemla, “Behold, I say unto you [these things] are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me” (Alma 5:46). The Lord has brought power and change to my life as I have feasted upon and searched the words of this precious book. Whatever you do, make sure that you are studying and feasting upon the words of the Book of Mormon each day. I invite myself and whoever reads this to strive to give the Lord more time. The Savior, Jesus Christ, will bring a joy to your life through it that you can find nowhere else. I know these things are true, and I leave them with you, along with my testimony, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is as the Lord said,  “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth” (D&C 1:30), in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, amen.

Sincerely, Tanyen Thomas

A MESSAGE FROM THE FIRST PRESEDENCY OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATERR-DAY SAINTS

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

We find ourselves fighting a war against the ravages of COVID-19 and its variants, an unrelenting pandemic. We want to do all we can to limit the spread of these viruses. We know that protection from the diseases they cause can only be achieved by immunizing a very high percentage of the population.

To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings whenever social distancing is not possible. To provide personal protection from such severe infections, we urge individuals to be vaccinated. Available vaccines have proven to be both safe and effective.

We can win this war if everyone will follow the wise and thoughtful recommendations of medical experts and government leaders. Please know of our sincere love and great concern for all of God’s children.
